BMW Unveils the New BMW 3 Series G50

05 Oct 2026

BMW has unveiled the new generation of its popular **3 Series sedan**, carrying the factory designation **G50**. The new model features a completely redesigned exterior inspired by the **Neue Klasse** design language, a heavily reworked interior and a more powerful performance version — the **M350 xDrive**, which replaces the previous M340i xDrive.

However, the new 3 Series has not become fully electric. While the upcoming **BMW i3** is moving to the Neue Klasse electric platform, combustion-engine versions of the 3 Series continue to use a significantly upgraded version of BMW's **CLAR architecture**.

Sales of the new-generation BMW 3 Series are scheduled to begin in the **first quarter of 2027**.

## A Completely New Design

The BMW 3 Series G50 looks significantly different from the latest BMW models. The oversized vertical kidney grilles are gone, replaced by a relatively narrow grille, while the headlights feature a slimmer and more modern lighting signature.

At the same time, BMW's designers have retained several references to the brand's heritage. The front end, with its distinctive **shark-nose** shape, recalls the legendary BMW 6 Series E24, while the overall proportions pay tribute to the classic BMW 2002.

The new 3 Series has also grown slightly in size. It measures approximately **4755 mm in length**, **1849 mm in width** and **1455 mm in height**, while the wheelbase has increased to around **2860 mm**.

The larger dimensions have also resulted in a higher curb weight. The rear-wheel-drive 330 weighs approximately **1736 kg**, the 330 xDrive around **1773 kg**, while the M350 xDrive reaches approximately **1891 kg**.

## Panoramic Vision Takes Center Stage

The interior of the new 3 Series adopts BMW's latest digital architecture.

One of the key features is **BMW Panoramic Vision** — a slim display stretching along the lower section of the windshield and capable of presenting information across almost the entire width of the dashboard.

It is complemented by a large **17.9-inch central display** angled toward the driver.

BMW has therefore retained one of the traditional characteristics of the 3 Series — a driver-focused cockpit. However, traditional analogue instruments and numerous physical controls have largely been replaced by digital displays and interfaces.

## BMW 330 Keeps 255 hp

The **BMW 330 and 330 xDrive** continue to be powered by a turbocharged **2.0-liter four-cylinder B48** gasoline engine.

Output remains at **255 hp**.

The more significant changes come higher up the range.

The previous **M340i xDrive** has been replaced by the new **M350 xDrive**.

Under the hood is still BMW's familiar turbocharged **3.0-liter B58 inline-six**, but its output has been significantly increased.

The M350 xDrive now produces **437 hp and approximately 580 Nm of torque**. The powertrain also features a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission.

For comparison, the previous M340i produced 386 hp. This means the new model gains an impressive **51 hp**.

BMW claims a **0–60 mph time of 3.6 seconds**, equivalent to approximately 97 km/h.

## An AWD System That Can Switch to Rear-Wheel Drive

The M350 xDrive is offered exclusively with all-wheel drive, but BMW has introduced an interesting feature for driving enthusiasts.

The **Drift Moment** function can disconnect the front axle, allowing the car to switch into a rear-wheel-drive mode for controlled drifting.

The M350 xDrive also receives adaptive dampers, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential and wider rear tires.

BMW has additionally revised the steering ratio and increased the track width to improve stability and sharpen the car's handling.

## A New Chapter for the BMW 3 Series

The BMW 3 Series G50 represents an important model in the company's transition toward its next generation of vehicles. BMW is developing its fully electric Neue Klasse lineup while continuing to modernize cars powered by internal-combustion engines.

The new 3 Series combines the traditional concept of a sporty BMW sedan with Neue Klasse-inspired styling, a completely redesigned digital interior and a significantly more powerful M350 xDrive.

The first vehicles of the new generation are expected to reach the market in the **first quarter of 2027**.
